Volunteer Spotlight on Alex Carr

Alex Carr began volunteering at First Choice Pregnancy Solutions last year because he was interested in the unique and powerful opportunity to minister to men who need encouragement during their partner’s pregnancy.  During the time he spent serving at First Choice he mentored two men.  Alex built a relationship and he was able to share with them how to live focused on God, and what the Bible says about the gospel and marriage, and other practices of strong fatherhood. While working alongside a female mentor, together they were able to minister to both partners during the pregnancy. 

Alex says,“I am passionate about volunteering at First Choice because of the significance of the cause - the truth about LIFE. It is a way for me to put into practice my Christian beliefs about God as creator and the one who grants conception and calls us to love our neighbor, the widow and orphan. One thing I have learned is that loving people is crucial in the fight for unborn children."

It is both a men and women’s issue because of these basic facts:

1) It takes both a man and woman to conceive a child

2) The woman is statistically more willing to carry the child when the man is supportive

3) God has designed the family unit in a way that the man is called to lead and one aspect of leadership is protecting both the woman and the child.

For a man to effectively learn how to lead his family and overcome fear or complacency it is very helpful to have a strong male influence to learn from."  Out of the 40 weekly volunteers at First Choice, only 7 of them are men.
