Dawn's Story

Dawn's abortion appointment was scheduled for Friday, November 30th.  Dawn is 15 years old and came to First Choice with her mom to find out exactly how far along she was in order to plan and prepare for her abortion. During the ultrasound we learned that Dawn was  21 weeks pregnant.  The client did opt to view the screen during the ultrasound and afterwards Dawn shared with her mom how far along she is and her mom was moved to tears and said "this decision is going to be harder than she thought."

Throughout the appointment we discovered that the biggest obstacle for Dawn was her mother's desire for her not to be pregnant because she believes it will be a challenge for her daughter to be a single mom at such a young age.  We told Dawn and her mom that we desired to work through the obstacles with them and would help connect them to resources in the community and our Next Steps program.  We assured them that this pregnancy did not have to be the end of the mom's hopes and dreams for Dawn.

During a follow up call with Dawn and her mom they made the decision on Wednesday night to not go through with the scheduled abortion.  Dawn will continue to receive First Choice services and be a part of the Next Steps program.  Please pray for the long road ahead for Dawn and her mom and for wisdom in their decision making process of parenting.  Praise God for His work to save this little one!
