"My Immediate Thought Was to Get Rid of It"

“My immediate thought was to ‘get rid of it”, said “Chloe” (name has been changed for client confidentiality), a 36-year-old medical professional. “The timing is all wrong.”

Chloe already had a daughter and thought she would be unable to conceive. Her current goals were to save money for a house of her own and to put her teenage daughter through college. Chloe was living at home with her parents when she discovered that she was pregnant. Chloe’s purpose in coming to First Choice was to make an informed decision regarding the fate of her pregnancy, but she was afraid to tell her family that she was pregnant.  During her appointment, Chloe told the client advocate that her gut told her to abort. While the father of the baby declared he hoped for a future with Chloe, she expressed doubt. Chloe said that having the baby might give the father false hope in their future together. He wanted to support her financially and emotionally. The father of the baby wanted her to have the baby, but Chloe was very unsure.

Because of bad weather, Chloe could not make it to her scheduled abortion appointment. At her second appointment with First Choice, Chloe told the client advocate even though she didn’t feel any pressure from her family to abort, she was still unsure of keeping her baby.  After the appointment Chloe changed her mind.  She shared that because of the ultrasound at First Choice and looking at the Fetal Development brochure and further understanding the baby’s development she said that her head, heart, and gut were all in agreement. Chloe decided to give her baby life!
